Asif Zardari: The Phantom Menace of Pakistani Politics

In a stunning display of political acrobatics, former president Asif Ali Zardari recently proclaimed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is the sole global champion of monumental sacrifices, conveniently forgetting that the sacrifice of his own political credibility has been rather substantial.

Zardari, who seems to have a PhD in the art of political somersaults, declared that the PPP is dedicated to easing the burdens of the common citizen, citing the party's enduring slogan of 'Roti, Kapra Aur Makan.' It's almost poetic how Zardari can recite these noble ideals while conveniently forgetting his own party's less-than-stellar record of governance.

The former president went on to claim that the PPP has made countless sacrifices, including shedding the blood of martyrs. Now, I'm no political scientist, but it's hard to take this claim seriously when one considers the numerous corruption scandals that have circled around Zardari like vultures during his time in power.

Zardari also emphasized the importance of digitization in key departments, apparently oblivious to the fact that during his tenure, the only thing that got a digital upgrade was his overseas bank account statements. It's heartwarming to see a politician suddenly advocating for transparency and good governance when, for many, the mere mention of Zardari brings forth images of a bygone era filled with dubious deals and offshore accounts.

But wait, there's more! Zardari, the self-proclaimed champion of women's rights, advocated for the strengthening and enforcement of anti-harassment laws. This coming from a man whose own political career is a masterclass in the art of backroom dealings and power plays. It's almost as if he's hoping we forget the allegations of corruption that plagued his time in office.

Let's not forget that Zardari, in his grand speech, proudly claimed the PPP to be the party that blessed the Islamic world with its first woman prime minister – the late Benazir Bhutto. While Bhutto indeed left an indelible mark on Pakistani history, it's quite the stretch for Zardari to ride on her legacy, given the murky waters of corruption that have always surrounded him.

In conclusion, Asif Ali Zardari's recent proclamation about the PPP's sacrifices and dedication to the people is as believable as a politician's promise during an election season. While he may try to cloak himself in the legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, many Pakistanis see through the smoke and mirrors of Zardari's political theatrics. In the grand production of Pakistani politics, Asif Zardari may fancy himself as a hero, but to many, he remains the elusive phantom menace.

CJPs and Cricket Bats: A Comedy of Errors in Pakistani Politics

In the grand theater of Pakistani politics, where political maneuvering is as common as chai on a Lahore street corner, a new act has taken center stage. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, is wielding the judicial cricket bat, and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is desperately trying not to be bowled out. Picture this: a three-judge Supreme Court bench led by CJP Isa, not satisfied with the PTI's petition on "enforced disappearances." It's like a cricket match where the batsman is desperately trying to hit the googly, but the bowler is throwing legal curveballs. And guess who's in the commentary box? None other than Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, a seasoned politician and lawyer, ready to face the googlies and bouncers of justice. CJP Isa, like a stern umpire, questions Ahsan's "locus standi." It's not your everyday courtroom drama; it's a judicial power play. The CJP suggests that the petition might be for the "benefit" of a po...
