Pakistan's Unified Stand Against Extremism: COAS and Islamic Scholars Advocate Peace and Harmony

In a pivotal gathering at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, alongside prominent Islamic scholars representing diverse schools of thought, resolutely declared a unified stance against extremism, terrorism, and sectarianism. The meeting, which aimed at fostering inter-sectarian harmony and understanding, showcased a commitment to a peaceful and inclusive Pakistan.

The COAS, addressing the assembly, unequivocally asserted that the use of force and armed action by any entity outside the state apparatus is unacceptable. His words underscored the belief that Pakistan belongs to all its citizens, transcending religious, provincial, tribal, linguistic, ethnic, and sectarian boundaries. This statement not only reaffirms the military's commitment to maintaining internal stability but also emphasizes the nation's dedication to a pluralistic and tolerant society.

The Islamic scholars, representing the rich tapestry of religious diversity in Pakistan, echoed their condemnation of extremism and terrorism. They pledged unwavering support for the tireless efforts of the state and security forces in promoting tolerance, peace, and stability. Emphasizing that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony, they rejected any distorted interpretations used for ulterior motives and reiterated their commitment to authentic Islamic teachings.

One noteworthy highlight of the gathering was the acknowledgment and endorsement of the "Paigham-e-Pakistan" fatwa issued by religious scholars. This collective decree serves to nullify misleading propaganda disseminated by extremists, aligning with the national agenda of countering radical narratives. General Munir lauded the scholars for their support and urged them to actively propagate and implement the fatwa, emphasizing the importance of unity among religious leaders.

Recognizing the pivotal role of Ulema in shaping the youth's understanding of the Qur’an and Sunnah, General Munir emphasized the importance of character building, academic knowledge, and technical skills. The message was clear: education and enlightenment are key components in countering radicalization and fostering a tolerant society.

Importantly, the assembly condemned intolerance and extreme behavior, particularly against minorities and vulnerable segments of society. This reflects a commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of their background.

Furthermore, the forum expressed support for government measures aimed at fortifying the state, including the repatriation of illegal foreigners, implementation of a unified document regime, anti-smuggling initiatives, and anti-power theft drives. The unanimous backing underscores a collaborative approach between the military, scholars, and the government to ensure the nation's security and prosperity.

Addressing regional concerns, the assembly acknowledged Pakistan's position on terrorism emanating from Afghan soil and urged serious actions by Afghanistan to address these concerns. This collaborative stance on regional security issues reflects Pakistan's commitment to promoting stability not only within its borders but also in the broader South Asian region.

Lastly, the forum expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Gaza, denouncing the atrocities committed against its people as crimes against humanity. This international solidarity reinforces Pakistan's commitment to advocating for justice and human rights on the global stage.

In conclusion, the convergence of military leadership and Islamic scholars in denouncing extremism and promoting a peaceful, inclusive society marks a significant step forward for Pakistan. This unified front sends a powerful message that transcends sectarian and ethnic divides, reaffirming the nation's commitment to its core values of tolerance, harmony, and social justice.
