Pakistan Confronts Ongoing Terrorism: Recent Attacks and Resilience

Terrorism remains a persistent challenge in Pakistan, as the nation continues to grapple with the menace of extremist violence. Within a span of just two days, Pakistan has witnessed a series of devastating attacks, causing widespread sorrow and mourning. These events serve as a grim reminder of the ongoing threat that terrorism poses to the nation. The most recent attack targeted the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mianwali Training Air Base, but there were also other attacks in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) provinces. This article delves into the recent attacks, their aftermath, and Pakistan's determination to combat terrorism.

  1. Attack on Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mianwali Training Air Base

On November 4, Pakistan was shaken by a brazen attack on the PAF Mianwali Training Air Base. The attackers, reportedly six in number, infiltrated the base during the early hours of the morning. Fortunately, the security troops acted swiftly and effectively to thwart the attack. As a result, three terrorists were killed after entering the base, while the other three were isolated due to the retaliatory action taken by the troops. While the attack was successfully foiled, some damage was inflicted on three already grounded aircraft and a fuel bowser.

Unverified videos circulating on social media showed a fire at the base, emphasizing the gravity of the incident. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that a comprehensive clearance and combing operation was underway to ensure the airbase's security. The military's response to the attack demonstrated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and assets, even in the face of terrorist threats.

  1. Earlier Attacks in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Provinces

The attack on the PAF Mianwali Training Air Base was not an isolated incident. A day before the base attack, Pakistan witnessed a wave of violence in Balochistan and K-P provinces. In Balochistan, a region that has long been marred by separatist insurgency and militant violence, 17 troops were martyred in different terrorist attacks. Fourteen soldiers lost their lives when two vehicles of the security forces moving from Pasni to Ormara in Gwadar district were ambushed by terrorists. The soldiers' funeral prayers were held in Pasni, and they were to be laid to rest in their hometowns.

In K-P, intense encounters between security forces and militants in Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat districts resulted in the martyrdom of three troops. These clashes occurred during intelligence-based operations in the region. The sudden surge in terrorist violence took a heavy toll, claiming the lives of more than 20 people, including 14 servicemen.

  1. The Ongoing Struggle Against Terrorism

The recent series of attacks underscores the relentless challenge Pakistan faces in its fight against terrorism. The country's commitment to eliminating this menace remains unwavering. The ISPR reiterated that "Pakistan Armed Forces remain committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country at all costs." These sacrifices of brave soldiers only strengthen Pakistan's resolve in the face of adversity.

Pakistan has long asserted that "hostile agencies" have played a role in fueling terrorism to destabilize the nation for their geopolitical interests. Notably, the involvement of such agencies was confirmed in 2016 when Pakistani intelligence agencies arrested Kulbhushan Jadhav, a serving commander of the Indian Navy, in Balochistan. Jadhav admitted to India's involvement in funding terrorism in Pakistan, which added a new dimension to the ongoing regional tensions.

  1. Condemnation and Resilience

The attacks in Balochistan and K-P provinces were met with condemnation from the government, military, and the people of Pakistan. The caretaker K-P government described the attacks as "cowardly and barbaric acts," emphasizing that terrorists could not demoralize the nation and its law enforcement agencies.

Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar expressed condolences to the grieving families and promised to provide the best medical facilities to the injured. He stressed that the fight against terrorists would continue until terrorism is eradicated from the country.

The ISPR also reported successful operations against terrorists in K-P, highlighting the military's dedication to eradicating terrorism. These operations resulted in the elimination of a TTP suicide bomber who had planned a high-profile incident in the region.

Conclusion

The recent wave of terrorist attacks in Pakistan, culminating in the assault on the PAF Mianwali Training Air Base, serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat that terrorism poses to the nation. The attacks in Balochistan and K-P provinces, along with ongoing violence in the region, continue to challenge Pakistan's security apparatus and resilience.

In the face of such adversity, Pakistan remains committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism, as demonstrated by the swift and effective response of its security forces. These sacrifices of brave soldiers further strengthen the nation's resolve to confront terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its people and assets.

As Pakistan continues its struggle against terrorism, the international community must support its efforts to bring lasting peace and stability to the region. The recent attacks underscore the urgency of addressing the root causes of terrorism and promoting cooperation among nations to combat this global threat.

CJPs and Cricket Bats: A Comedy of Errors in Pakistani Politics

In the grand theater of Pakistani politics, where political maneuvering is as common as chai on a Lahore street corner, a new act has taken center stage. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, is wielding the judicial cricket bat, and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is desperately trying not to be bowled out. Picture this: a three-judge Supreme Court bench led by CJP Isa, not satisfied with the PTI's petition on "enforced disappearances." It's like a cricket match where the batsman is desperately trying to hit the googly, but the bowler is throwing legal curveballs. And guess who's in the commentary box? None other than Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, a seasoned politician and lawyer, ready to face the googlies and bouncers of justice. CJP Isa, like a stern umpire, questions Ahsan's "locus standi."
